Why Dean Built This
Dean is the third generation of his family in the textile trade, which traces back to 1958. Red Rose Cleaning Cloths was formally established in 1986, decades before Red Rose Recycling existed as its own operation. What pushed him to set this up properly wasn’t a statistic. It was watching how much decent uniform gets binned because nobody had built an alternative, and realising most businesses had no idea they were carrying legal exposure. Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, every business that produces waste has a duty of care, and uniform counts once it’s discarded. That waste has to go to an authorised person, with a Waste Transfer Note kept every time it changes hands. Dean’s view is straightforward. This isn’t a hard problem, it just needs setting up properly once so it runs quietly in the background from then on.
Where the Material Actually Goes
Every collection starts the same way, hand sorted and graded rather than processed on assumption. Reuse comes first wherever the material allows it, textiles fit for a second working life get identified before anything is broken down. What passes that check moves on to Red Rose Cleaning Cloths, our sister company, and gets remanufactured into cleaning wipers rather than treated as waste. What does not pass goes through recycling or secure destruction instead, but even then the aim stays the same, nothing leaves our facility bound for landfill. It is a straightforward material journey, not a marketing claim.
